Why Oak?

At the heart of all our buildings is a traditionally jointed structural frame made from unseasoned (i.e. 'green') European oak. Oak is one of the most durable natural materials known to man. It is both naturally resistant to insect and fungal attack and impervious to the weather. It requires virtually no maintenance and is one of the few materials that will increase in strength with age.

We use timbers sourced from sustainably managed forests which, through careful and constant stewardship, safeguards the future of oak forests to ensure a plentiful supply of oak timber for generations to come.

To provide a more substantial building than is standard, we insist on using seven inch square oak posts in our frames. Not only does this improve the structural strength of our buildings, but also has more aesthetic appeal.

In all non-habitable Oakwrights buildings, unless instructed otherwise, we leave the oak frame exposed, to be seen and admired, rather than covered by feather edged boarding ensuring your building has the maximum aesthetic charm.
